Diferença entre SAY x TELL | Como falar DIZER em inglês

Neste post vou explicar a diferença entre SAY e TELL referindo-se a palavra DIZER.

A diferença principal entre as duas palavras é bem simples: SAY significa DIZER e TELL significa DIZER PARA…

Vamos entender melhor com alguns exemplos:

He said that he was going to get here soon.
He told me that he was going to get here soon.
He said to me that he was going to get here soon.

I have something to say.
I have something to say to you.
I have something to tell you.

She said that she was hungry.
She told me that she was hungry.

What did you say?
What did you tell him?
What did you say to him?

I wanna say something.
I wanna say something to you.
I wanna tell you something.

OBSERVAÇÕES

  • Existem expressões fixas que apredemos a usar sempre da mesma forma:

Say a prayer.

Tell the time.

Tell the truth.

  • Tell pode ser usado no sentido de saber ou perceber algo:

I can tell when somebody is lying to me.
